Microelectronics is a broad technological sector that focuses on the development of integrated circuits, better known as chips. These chips are designed, manufactured, tested, and assembled. They are then integrated into electronic systems that are controlled by software.
Microelectronics enables extensive miniaturization and mass production. This allows electronic systems to be used in diverse environments, from applications in the human body to systems that operate in space. Consider telecommunications, where chips provide faster and more reliable connections. To the automotive sector, with electric vehicles and autonomous driving functions. Or to biomedical applications, in which technology contributes to minimally invasive surgery, better diagnostics, and prevention.
During the program, participants will learn about the possibilities of current microelectronics and future applications through lectures, demonstrations, and interactive activities. We show how versatile and impactful this field is and how it contributes to technological and societal advancement.
The program focuses on four main themes:
Semiconductor technology
Integrated circuits design
Digital systems and embedded intelligence
Integration
The sessions are provided by representatives of leading universities, research institutes, and companies. Additionally, young engineers share their personal career experiences. This way, participants not only gain substantive depth, but also insight into the various career paths within the semiconductor sector.
Admission Criteria
This Summer School is intended for bachelor students who have completed at least two years of their university studies at the time of participation and have at least one year remaining before completing their bachelor's degree. Students from all STEM fields, Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics, at a university in an EU member state or associated country can apply.
A good command of English is mandatory, as all activities and interactions take place in English.
Selection Procedure
Selection is based on the applicant's CV, a motivation letter, a maximum of three letters of recommendation, and academic transcripts.
During the assessment, attention is paid to gender and geographical diversity, to compose a diverse group of students with different backgrounds.
Costs
Participation in the Summer School is free of charge. Accommodation and meals are provided. Travel expenses are not reimbursed.
Application Deadline
The application deadline is March 29, 2026.
